LMHS Classes of the 50's

November 12, 2009. My apologies for this long delayed re-opening of your web site. Too many work commitments, some health issues and just a bit of procrastination are all responsible for this delay. For those who don’t already know it, this web site is for the usage of the Levittown Memorial High School graduating classes of the 1950’s. To put the site in an age range, graduates were born between the years 1935 and 1942. The school opened in 1953 and closed as a high school in 1983. This web site is reserved for the first six graduating classes (1954 – 1959) The building itself is still located at 150 Abbey Lane and is now called the Levittown Memorial Special Education Center

Historical Perspective

These six classes could easily have made up the cast of the television sitcom "Happy Days" which was actually shown in the last half of the 70's and first half of the 80's. I think each class had it's own version of Richie Cunningham, Potsie Weber, Ralph Malph and "the Fonz". We were the children of men and women that went into combat in World War II, the children of men and women that worked in the aircraft factories of Grumman and Republic but we were not the "boomers" who came after us ( born in 1943 and beyond). We were members of the "Silent Generation" (1925 - 1942)

Many of us had our roots in New York City's five boroughs. Our parents came to Levittown in the great housing boom after the end of WWII. And why not? For $90.00 down and $58.00 per month you could own a $7,990 house that measured 32' by 25' on a plot of land that was usually 60' by 100'

Our Golden Years!

All six classes have celebrated their 50th reunion. With an age range of 67 to 74, you can be sure we are all collecting social security and pensions. We live all over the United States with a few living in Europe and Asia. Sadly, some of us are gone and some of us are ill. Some of us are still working and others are well settled in their retirement. Wer'll do our best to keep you aware of what's happening within these pages.

Over the next week, I will bring up the rest of the web site so that you can write your own thoughts and ideas. You can publish as you wish.
